Minister Says Now Is The Time To Buy In Spain

This week Spain’s Development Minister was at the Spanish Embassy in London presenting his views on the current state of the property market in Spain and explaining why he believes that now is the time to buy in Spain.

With hundreds of thousands of unsold holiday homes in Spain, many of which are going at rock bottom prices, it certainly does seem that it is a buyers market at the moment with bargains galore to be found all over Spain.

Here in Marbella, we are seeing new properties come on to the books every single day and while the market has changed and certain aspects have become a lot more difficult, we are still finding that people are snapping up these bargain Marbella properties at prices they are more than happy with.

The Minister’s talk forms part of a mini Roadshow during which he will be visiting several countries and participating in talks and presentations with the aim of encouraging renewed interest in the property market in Spain. With house prices that have fallen considerably, coupled with the fact that the Spanish economy is making steps towards a positive and slow recovery, property in Spain is spiking the interest again of those looking to pick up bargain investment properties as well as second homes.

Global Recovery On The Way?

With the news that property prices in France are set to rise between 3-6% this year, can we now expect that a global recovery is on its way?

The FNAIM, the body that represents French real estate agents shows that demand is still there for property in France and the news bodes well for the rest of the European property market.

Buy Now in Spain?

While there still may be reports of property prices falling in Spain, the prospect of property prices rising and continuing to rise in other European countries brings positive news and hope for a full recovery in the Spanish real estate marketplace. The news could point towards now being a good time to buy property in Spain to take maximum advantage of rock bottom bargain property prices.

With broad expert opinion saying that overseas property investments have never looked so good, there is full expectation that the property market in Spain will rise again to dominate the top destinations to buy foreign property.

Semana Santa in Marbella | Paul O’Mahony

Semana Santa is fast approaching and there’s no where quite like Spain to experience Easter Week.

Easter week throughout Spain is a cause for massive celebrations, processions, events and things to do for all the family and puts most other European countries to shame when it comes to celebrating Holy Week.

Street processions are one of the main highlights to Easter week wherever you are in Spain and most towns will have their own processions which usually involve a number of people carrying giant religious statues and effigies from the local church, around the town and back again. The statues are incredibly heavy and are carried on large platforms and those taking part will be sombrely dressed in what look like Ku Klux Clan outfits but which are in fact costumes that are meant to be reminiscent of the Nazareños, those of Nazareth. Those carrying the statues are also usually accompanied by people carrying huge candles.

The processions are somewhat of a spectacle in Spain and many places, particularly in Andalucia, such as Seville and Granada, are well known for their Holy Week processions.

Semana Santa in Marbella

There is a range of Easter activities planned for the Marbella area this year including an Easter Egg Hunt in Coin on Sunday 17th April, an Easter Golf Camp at La Quinta, an Easter boat fair in the Banus marina, an Easter fair at the Mijas hippodrome on Sunday 24th April and several other children’s fayres and events with face-painting, egg hunts and easter parades.
